How is FC2 Female Condom® different from a male condom?

Both FC2 and the male condom are barrier methods that provide protection against pregnancy and STIs including HIV.  They are both for one-time use only.

Can only be put on an erect penis

Must be removed immediately after ejaculation
Does not need to be removed immediately after ejaculation but should be removed before the woman gets up
Covers most of the penis and protects the woman’s internal genitalia
Covers both the woman’s internal and part of the external genitalia and the base of the penis, thus provides broader protection
Little lubrication
